I applied for EI on the day of my G+ R online. Don't try applying now as it lets you get almost through the application when it asks for the custody date (G+R) and you can not put a date in the future. If your board gives any kind of adoption leave (I got 5 days for travel) then EI waives the waiting period.

Good luck.

Woohoo!!!! I am so excited for you guys. I can't imagine what it has been like trying to write report cards right before leaving for Vietnam. I am distracted on the most mundane days when I have to write report cards... Congrats on finishing them!!! That is huge, really huge!!! Here you come babies!!!

Jules - no it seems tiny to me too
B - I know not of this adoption leave. I am trying for 3 special leave days to bridge the gap
Stef - I got chocolate from mine
Klp - such a nice message - who are you again?
Michelle - I wish I were worthy of your admiration but it is just the first part, for English, that is done

My board gives adoption leave days for travel for the parent NOT taking parental leave and for the leave taking parent in "special" circumstances. My union told me to not even bother asking as they never give them to anyone...so I didn't ask. While I was away my principal decided that was ridiculous and applied for "principal discretionary days" on my behalf and the board must have felt ridiculous as they ended up assigning them as adoption leave...5 days from my sick days.

Yeah! not long now.

Hey Samantha,

Our board gives three days adoption leave for any adoptive parent... but we also have up to 10 days compassionate leave that you can apply for... it is discretionary for special circumstances, and traveling to a far away country to meet your children is definitely special. I think you should check with your union.

And, I think it is funny that your list grows as the day progresses. This makes me think that you are accomplishing things and therefore adding more to your day. Hopefully this means that the lists will end shortly and you will just be able to wait in peaceful contemplation of meeting your babies...

Bev and Jules- I was composing a note in my head saying that we hope to be with them as early as Monday in which case I won't need any extra leave because the parental leave can start on Tuesday - then I realized why that day is a holiday and now really hoping that's the day!

Hi Samantha,

I am a fellow adoptive parent. We adopted a little boy from Korea and have been home about 10 weeks now. We may do a second adoption from Vietnam and right now our application is on hold until we are ready. My blog is www.waitingforlucas.wordpress.com if you would like to see who I am. LOL
I just enjoy reading blogs even though I am already back home.

All the best,

karen
